The unique properties of Silvia lie in its ergonomic design that mirrors the human form, wider at the shoulders and tapering towards the feet. This design not only ensures maximum comfort but also significantly reduces water usage, from the standard 280 liters to a mere 130 liters. An integrated overflow, a feature not yet seen in mass production, is cleverly embedded into the thin wall of the bathtub, further enhancing its innovative appeal.
Constructed from cast marble, with natural dolomite powder as its primary ingredient, Silvia is a marvel of modern manufacturing technology. The combination of dolomite powder and polymer resin results in a composite material that boasts the flexibility and strength of its components. The outer layer, made of gelcoat, hardened resin with pigment and particles of quartz, adds to the overall durability and aesthetic appeal of the bathtub.
The bathtub measures 1700mm in width, 700mm in depth, and 600mm in height. The design process, which began in January 2015 in Poznan, culminated in May 2015. The design was awarded the prestigious IF design award in February 2016 and was exhibited during arenadesign in March 2016.
Design thinking methods, including mind mapping, brainstorming, and the use of scenarios, storyboards, and personas, were integral to the design process. The creation of mockups and prototypes was crucial in verifying the final design. The most significant challenge was implementing a complete design process that required a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach, deciding which design methods best suited to foster innovation and solve problems.
The Silvia bathtub is not just a product; it is a testament to the power of design, the potential of materials, and the importance of sustainability. It is a symbol of how design can transform everyday objects into works of art that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally responsible. The Silvia bathtub is a celebration of the past, a tribute to the present, and a promise for the future.
The Silvia bathtub is protected by Patent No. 002801811-0013 Marmite S.A.28.09.2015.OHIM. It was awarded Platinum in A' Bathroom Furniture and Sanitary Ware Design Award in 2016, recognizing its world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative design that contributes to societal wellbeing.
